The days are getting longer and the weather is getting warmer, which means one thing: Zara Larsson season is near. Sunny Swedish pop star Larsson is releasing a Midnight Sun remix album called Girls Trip, and she just revealed the star-studded features list. It’s got a wide swath of pop icons, fellow up-and-comers, and longtime Larsson collaborators. In the “icon” category are “Hips Don’t Lie” singer Shakira and “Dancing on My Own” sensation Robyn, who shares Larsson’s Swedish citizenship. PinkPantheress, who previously collaborated with Larsson on her “Stateside” remix, will also be featured. Other big names include “Folded” singer Kehlani, ex–City Girl JT, and “Water” performer Tyla.
Two of Larsson’s main collaborators on Midnight Sun are getting their moment to shine: Helena Gao and Margo XS, who both helped write nine out of the ten original Midnight Sun tracks (excepting “Girl’s Girl”), will be featured. The Girls Trip roster is filled out by Madison Beer, Emilia Mernes, BAMBII, Malibu, and Eli.
The upcoming remix album looks to be a crowning moment for Larsson. She has been on a steady ascent to “main pop girl” status over the past year. Prior to the release of Midnight Sun, she was a near non-presence on the Billboard “Hot 100.” However, with a viral tour to her name and a growing fan base enjoying her new music, she began rising. “Midnight Sun” eventually peaked at No. 39; “Stateside,” with PinkPantheress, made the top ten after Olympian Alysa Liu skated to it; and the 2015 song “Lush Life” reentered the chart due to her tour, peaking at No. 35. Now, after a winter of growing success, she’s ready take on the summer by storm when Girls Trip comes out May 1.
