Madison Warner, the daughter of U.S. Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., died following a “decades-long battle with juvenile diabetes and other health issues,” the lawmaker’s office said Monday.

She was 36.

“We are heartbroken beyond words by the passing of our beloved daughter … after a decades-long battle with juvenile diabetes and other health issues,” according to a statement by the senior senator from Virginia and his wife, Lisa Collins.

“She filled our lives with love and laughter, and her absence leaves an immeasurable void. We are grateful for the loving support of friends and family during this difficult time and ask for privacy as we navigate this profound loss.”

The senator’s daughter kept a low profile and little is known about her personal life.

In 2019, Warner tweeted a BuzzFeed article about the challenges faced by people living with Type 1 diabetes in America.

“As the father of a daughter with Juvenile Diabetes, this just breaks my heart,” he added. “Congress and the pharmaceutical companies need to step up to make sure insulin is affordable and accessible for those who need it.”

Warner is in the midst of a re-election campaign, seeking the Democrat’s fourth term in office representing Old Dominion.

Condolences from across the political spectrum began pouring in shortly after the announcement of his daughter’s death.

Vice President JD Vance, a Republican who is frequently at odds with the senator on policy, posted that his family was thinking of the Warner family.

“Our prayers are with Sen. Warner, his daughter, and their whole family,” Vance posted to X. “What a terrible loss at such a young age. May God comfort them.”

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger offered her family’s condolences.

“My deepest condolences are with the Warner family as Mark and Lisa mourn their beloved daughter and Gillian and Eliza mourn their sister, Madison,” the governor said in a statement.

Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, called Madison Warner’s passing “heartbreaking.”

“Please join me in praying for Senator Mark Warner and his family,” Lee said in a statement. “This is heartbreaking news.”

Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., said he knows how close Warner and his wife are to their daughters.

“Anne and I have known Mark and Lisa for decades, and nothing in the world has ever mattered more to them than their daughters,” Kaine said in a statement.

“We met Madison when she was ten years old and have so many wonderful memories of time together with her. We are keeping the entire Warner family and all who knew and loved Madison in our prayers as they grieve this terrible loss.”
