Articulating a vision for a desired future is a central task of leadership. Yet vision alone rarely mobilizes sustained effort in conditions of uncertainty or disruption. In those conditions, which prevail today, the difference between employee engagement and disengagement comes down to whether that desired future feels achievable and worth pursuing. Put simply, does it inspire hope?
