This is not the rollout Zayn Malik wanted for Konnakol. Malik posted an Instagram Story of himself in a hospital gown, offering apologies for not being able make record store appearances this weekend. “Thank you to all of you for your love & support now & always — been a long week and am still unexpectedly recovering,” he wrote. “Heartbroken that I can’t see you all this week.” Malik did not disclose why he was in the hospital, but he did specifically thank the hospital’s cardiologist in his message.
The story came the same day Malik’s fifth studio album, Konnakol, came out. Earlier this week, the singer postponed a fan event at London’s Circuit, Kingston. “I’m really sorry but unfortunately I am sick and I won’t be able to make it to the UK this week as planned,” he said at the time, per Rolling Stone. Konnakol his first album in three years, since 2024’s Room Under the Stairs. The album is named after the art of rhythmic syllables in South Indian Carnatic music.
