R&B singer D4vd, real name David Burke, will be charged with the murder of the 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Los Angeles County district attorney Nathan Hochman said he intends to charge him with first-degree murder with the special circumstances of lying in wait, continuous lewd acts with a person under 14, and mutilating human remains of a body, per the New York Times. He did not confirm if they will pursue the death penalty.

The case began on September 8, 2025, when police investigators found Hernandez’s body in the trunk of Burke’s discarded Tesla in Los Angeles. Burke canceled the end of his 2025 tour 11 days after she was found. Hernandez was reported missing by her family three times in 2024, and her mother told TMZ that her daughter was dating a boy named “David.” The body was found after a foul-smelling odor emanated from the discarded car. Burke was named a suspect in the case as of November 18 of the same year. On February 26, 2026, unsealed court documents confirmed that he was the “target” of a grand jury investigation in Los Angeles. Burke himself has yet to comment on the case.
