Sabrina Carpenter let Madonna borrow her wristband for Coachella Week 2. The Material Girl showed up in Carpenter’s second headlining spot, smack dab in the middle of “Juno.” After Carpenter asked “Have you ever tried this one?” Madonna emerged from the bowels of Indio and went into “Vogue.” It was a pretty thematically on-point transition.
The show then went into what seemed like a song off Madonna’s next album, Confessions II. Mads reflected on debuting Confessions on a Dance Floor at Coachella 20 years ago, then gave a brief lesson on astrology. Apparently, we should be avoiding confrontations until some planets get out of Aries. She then thanked Carpenter for letting her finally perform with someone shorter than her, ending with a duet of “Like a Prayer.”
Carpenter has never made a secret of her Madonna fandom. At the 2024 VMAs, she wore a vintage Bob Mackie previously worn by Madonna. And also Fran Fine. It’s a very good dress. Last week, Carpenter invited Will Ferrell and Susan Sarandon (playing Future!Sabrina) to perform with her. This week, it was Madonna, Terry Crews (replacing Will Ferrell), and Geena Davis (in the same role as Sarandon). Because Thelma & Louise, get it?
