This is Ariana Grande’s, what, third time in a lie-detector? At least this time she doesn’t have to answer any questions about the moon landing. Universal dropped the first trailer for Focker-In-Law, f.k.a. Meet the Parents 4. Grande plays Olivia Jones, a former FBI hostage negotiator who is dating Henry Focker (Skyler Gisondo). Henry’s father, Greg (Ben Stiller), isn’t feeling this new addition to the family. Especially because grandpa Jack Byrnes immediately takes a shine to her. A former CIA guy welcoming a Feeb into the fam? I don’t buy it.
“I guess you could say I’m the new De Niro of the franchise,” Stiller said at CinemaCon. De Niro, meanwhile, called Grande “probably the single funniest scene partner I’ve ever been lucky enough to share the screen with.” It was designed as fake shade to Stiller, but that does feel rude to some of De Niro’s other former co-stars. What about Aubrey Plaza? Christopher Walken? Okay, he wasn’t funny in The Deer Hunter, but have you seen “The Continental,” Bobby? It’s really good. Focker-in-Law comes to theaters this Thanksgiving.
