Why would Mary Todd Lincoln want to flood my basement and rust my bowflex? To what end? To what end?

Six-time Emmy Award winner Maya Rudolph will make her Broadway debut as Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary! She’s the latest in a fabulous line of Marys, a role most recently filled by John Cameron Mitchell. Her run will last just eight weeks, beginning April 28 and ending June 20. That’s 20 days of Rudolph playing Mary Todd during Pride Month. If God hates gay people, then why do they keep winning?

“Ever since I was a little girl I have dreamed of being Cole Escola,” Rudolph said in a statement. “Oh, Mary! is the funniest play I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of plays, you’d be surprised. It’s such an honor to play the role of Mary, especially after so many iconic Marys have come before me. So making my Broadway debut in the role of a lifetime — as a miserable, suffocated, alcoholic woman — is a real dream come true.”

To promote Rudolph’s run, Oh, Mary! released a video of her finding a message on a mirror written in lipstick reading, “You’re next, Mary.” Suddenly, it fades to actually read, “You’re next, Maya.” “Oh … fu—” Rudolph said in response. Can’t wait to watch her drink her own vomit.
