Production for season five of Hulu’s The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has been paused, but the drama keeps flowing. What’s a reality show to do? On Bravo, Vanderpump Rules doubled down on filming when Scandoval dropped, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for these Utah housewives. In addition to drama around the ongoing domestic-violence investigation into the show’s star Taylor Frankie Paul, there are two impending divorces, a MomToker relocating to NYC, and a few other less scandalous updates. Will MomTok survive this? Here’s what we know so far.
There’s no more word on whether the show will continue aside from production being paused for now. TMZ reported that, in addition to an investigation from Utah police, Jeff Jenkins Productions, which produces the series, is conducting its own third-party investigation. The outlet also claims the show may not continue with or without Taylor Frankie Paul. Hulu ordered two seasons totaling 20 episodes last year; season four dropped on March 12, and season five started filming earlier this year.
Both Hulu and the cast decided to pause filming for season five on March 16 after Draper City police confirmed a domestic-violence investigation into Paul and Dakota Mortensen from a dispute in late February. “Taylor Frankie Paul has some pretty serious stuff happening regarding her past, and they will see what happens. Until that resolves, they are off,” a source told People just days before Paul’s season of The Bachelorette was scrapped.
“It was a decision that all us girls came up with and agreed on,” Mikayla Matthews shared on her Instagram Stories on March 19. “We didn’t feel comfortable filming with everything that was happening.” On Call Her Daddy, Jessi Draper confirmed production is still paused: “I feel like all of us right now are just trying to like be like, ‘Okay, we’re human beings first, and let’s figure that out and then we’ll get back to filming the show.’ Clearly, there’s no shortage of drama in our lives. So if we get another season, it’s going to be good.”
The Orange County version of SLOMW is still underway. There will allegedly be eight new cast members and one original MomToker, Jen Affleck. But it looks as though Matthews is already in California — maybe MomTok can survive a move to the West Coast.
