The United States Men’s National Team are back in action tonight as they take on Portugal in their second and final friendly of the March international window. The USMNT hope to improve after a 5-2 throttling at the hands of Belgium over the weekend.

After being told by USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino that Chris Richards would be held out of tonight’s match due to a knee issue, Chris Richards said yesterday that he was “fine” and available for selection tonight. His return could help the USMNT back line against a Portugal team that is dangerous even without Cristiano Ronaldo in the lineup (some would say they’re more dangerous with him sidelined). Midfielder Johnny Cardoso departed camp yesterday due to leg discomfort, returning to Atlético Madrid for his recovery.

Even with Richards in the lineup, the USMNT will have to defend a lot better while finding a way to score some goals against Portugal, who drew Mexico at Estadio Azteca on Saturday. In the last match before the World Cup roster is named in May, the team will be wearing their Stars kits and hoping to play like stars to provide a boost in confidence ahead of this summer’s World Cup.
