The Revenge' Tops $147 Million Globally Jio Studios/B62 Studios

Jio Studios and B62 Studios’ “Dhurandhar: The Revenge” has crossed INR1,365 crores ($147.8 million) worldwide in just 11 days, surpassing the lifetime collections of the first installment, per numbers from the studios.

The first installment, which collected $141.5 million worldwide, returned to theaters March 12-13 across 500 screens in a rare international re-release ahead of the sequel’s bow.

The Aditya Dhar-directed spy-action sequel’s India gross stands at $110.7 million.

In North America, the film has dethroned S.S. Rajamouli’s “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion,” which held the record at $20.2 million, with “Dhurandhar: The Revenge” crossing $23 million. The achievement marks a significant milestone for Hindi-language cinema in the territory, where the first “Dhurandhar” had built a formidable fanbase and came within striking distance of the top spot during its theatrical run.

The sequel opened with $10 million from 987 venues over the weekend and $14 million for the extended five-day launch, setting a new benchmark for Bollywood releases. The Dhar-directed film topped the previous Hindi record held by Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan,” which bowed to $6.9 million in its opening three days and $9.5 million over five days in 2023. The debut landed just shy of the all-time Indian film opening held by “Baahubali 2,” which launched to $10.4 million domestically in 2017.

The film holds the No. 1 position for an Indian film across all overseas territories except the U.K., where it has grossed £3.4 million ($4.4 million), trailing “Pathaan’s” £4.3 million ($5.6 million) for second place. More than 80% of screens are holding the film over into Week 2 across international markets. The “Dhurandhar” films are yet to release in China, where Aamir Khan’s “Dangal” is the all time Indian box office champion with $192 million.

In Australia, the film has crossed A$6 million ($4.1 million), while Germany has surpassed $1 million.

The film mounted the widest overseas release for a Hindi film across approximately 2,200 cinemas and 3,000 screens without Gulf territories, expanding into non-traditional markets including Finland, Uruguay, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Chile, Mexico and Cyprus.

Ranveer Singh stars in dual avatars, with R. Madhavan as Ajay Sanyal, Arjun Rampal as ISI Major Iqbal, Sanjay Dutt as SP Chaudhary Aslam, and Sara Arjun. Written, directed and produced by Dhar, with Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar also producing, the film released in the Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam languages.
