A new “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” are finally in action, as Season 2 of the Amazon Prime Video series has started production after a monthslong delay.

According to sources, Talia Ryder has replaced Sophie Thatcher in the lead role. She will star opposite “Anora” breakout Mark Eydelshteyn, who was previously announced.

Amazon Prime Video declined to comment.

The two take over the roles from Erskine and Donald Glover, who anchored the series’ New York-set first season. Anna Ouyang Moench (“Severance,” “Beef”) has also taken the reins from Francesca Sloane as showrunner and writer. This next installment is shooting in Los Angeles after the production received a $22.4M tax credit from the California Film Commission to relocate. The season was initially set to film in fall 2025 but was put on an indefinite delay.

The first season ended with a cliffhanger, leaving the fates of Erskine and Glovers’ characters in limbo. But Variety reported in 2024 that the two actors would not be at the center of the next season of the show, which would take on more of an anthology format.

Created by Glover and Sloane, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” is inspired by the 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. (In the show, it is two strangers who are paired up as partners in espionage, rather than a married couple.) The series earned 16 Emmy nominations and won two.

The show is executive produced by Moench, Glover, Yariv Milchan, Michael Schaefer, Stephen Glover, Anthony Katagas, Fam Udeorji and Season 1 star Erskine, who boarded as an EP for Season 2. It’s produced by Amazon MGM Studios and New Regency.
