United set their financial demands back in July when negotiating his season-long deal, adding the buy clause to Rashford’s terms to make for a more seamless transaction this summer.
It’s an option over an obligation, meaning the Blaugrana are under no pressure to actually see out the agreement, although reports have suggested Hansi Flick is keen on retaining Rashford long-term.

According to an update shared by Sky Sports’ Danyal Khan, United aren’t closed off to the prospect of bringing the 28-year-old back to Carrington before offloading him for a ‘higher fee elsewhere’ – and are confident they could.
Barcelona, renowned for their ever-precarious monetary woes, will reportedly try to lowball the Red Devils in their scheduled meetings in the coming weeks, yet United are prepared to walk away from talks if need be.
Rashford himself does want to stay put at Camp Nou, but presumably would respect United’s decision if that were to be the outcome. Then, as he’s unlikely to pull on the red shirt again, he would work with club chiefs to explore a transfer to an entirely new suitor.

In the 39 appearances that the United graduate has made for Barcelona across all competitions, he has returned 10 goals and 13 assists.
Unfortunately for Rashford, he has had to navigate a reduced role since recovering from a brief injury setback in March. Since returning to action, he has been an unused substitute twice and featured for only 28 minutes in total across two appearances.
