Savannah Guthrie isn’t going away, and she won’t stop speaking up. In her first interview since the disappearance of her mother, Nancy, between January 31 and February 1, the Today host sat down with Hoda Kotb to discuss the ongoing investigation and her continued resilience in the face of unknowable pain. “Someone needs to do the right thing. We are in agony. We are in agony. It is unbearable,” Guthrie said. “And in the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought. And I will not hide my face. But she needs to come home now,” she continued in a tearful conversation with Kotb.
The two-part conversation will air on March 26 and 27 and provide more information on Guthrie’s faith and fortitude during this time. Even the clip of her conversation alone was emotional for fellow Today hosts Carson Daly, Al Roker, and Craig Melvin to watch. Kotb told her co-hosts that she admires Guthrie’s ability to “sit there with an outfit on, have a conversation, and also have just direct thoughts about what she sees going forward.” Earlier this month, Guthrie returned to Today to visit her co-hosts and the crew. She has stated her intention to return to the program, but no date has been announced yet.
