Ahead of the 2026 Academy Awards, host Conan O’Brien gave a brief tease at what the late Rob Reiner’s in memoriam tribute would look like on Sunday. “It’s hard to sum up in this environment and would sound too piffy or weird to sum it up here. I don’t think it would be appropriate,” O’Brien told Extra at the red carpet unrolling on March 12. “It’s going to be a very powerful part of the show.” Oscar’s producer, Katy Mullan, gave a similar response when asked about the in memoriam segment; she added, “I guess we can’t really go into detail of what it’s gonna be this year, but we really hope that it is a tribute that moves people and feels like it does the incredible people we’ve lost this year justice.”
Last December, Reiner and his wife, Michelle Singer Reiner, were found dead in an apparent homicide. Their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and since then has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder.
