Mark down another win for the talented Sandra Hüller and that guy named Ryan Gosling. Project Hail Mary scored a second great weekend at the box office, pulling in $54.5 million domestically. That’s only a 32 percent drop from its already fantastic opening weekend. In total, this brings PHM past the $300 million benchmark worldwide, having earned $164 million domestically and $136 million internationally, per Box Office Mojo. PHM is now, after just two weeks, the highest-grossing Hollywood movie of the still-young year, beating out other big, non-franchise films like Wuthering Heights and Pixar’s Hoppers. It’s the combined company’s first major box-office breakout following major flops like After the Hunt ($9.4 million box office on a reported $80 million budget) and the Melania documentary ($16 million after paying $40 million for it). The next big box-office moment for it is the success of Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming Bond movie. If Amazon MGM really wants to make sure it’s solid, then it should go ahead and cast Rocky as the next 007.
