It’s an exciting day for muggles and wizards alike.
After months of anticipation, HBO released a teaser trailer for its “Harry Potter” TV series and unveiled its premiere date.
“Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” will premiere on HBO Christmas Day this year, December 25, 2026.
On March 24, the network shared a sneak peek photo of actor Dominic McLaughlin in costume as Harry wearing a red Gryffindor robe with the No. 7. In its post, HBO teased more information to come on March 25, and with the flick of a wand, HBO granted fans’ wishes with the debut of the first official teaser for the show, which promises to be “faithful adaptation” of J. K. Rowling’s books.
The teaser previews the story many have come to love, starting with Harry’s life with the Dursleys at 4 Privet Drive. After receiving a letter addressed to the “cupboard under the stairs,” Harry is whisked into the magical world of Hogwarts by Hagrid, played in the HBO show by Nick Frost.
In the final scene of the teaser, Harry meets his eventual best friends, Ron and Hermione, played by Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout, who altogether make up the seven-book series’ Golden Trio.
What to Know About the ‘Harry Potter’ TV Series
In 2023, HBO announced its plans to adapt “Harry Potter” into a TV series. Fans got their first look at the actors playing Harry, Hermione and Ron in May 2025.
Similar to the original seven-book series, HBO plans to make seven seasons of the “Harry Potter” TV series. The first season will premiere at the end of 2026.
In July 2025, the network shared a photo of McLaughlin on set in his Hogwarts uniform, wearing his character’s signature round glasses.
“Exploring every corner of the wizarding world, each season will bring ‘Harry Potter’ and its incredible adventures to new and existing audiences,” HBO previously said of the project in a press release.
Rowling is set to serve as executive producer on the project.
