Rosalía ‘s love for ballet is no secret, though it became abundantly clear during the Lux Tour. Stepping onto pointe shoes and donning a tutu on stage garnered the artist almost as much criticism as praise—and while we’ll leave the technical analysis to the professionals—it’s undeniable that she’s brought this romantic aesthetic back into the spotlight before Timothée Chalamet’s recent faux pas.
And we’re certainly celebrating the fact that she’s incorporated ballet-core into her everyday outfits offstage. On March 28, she was spotted wearing a very simple leotard as she left restaurant in Madrid, where she’s set to perform a run of concerts at the Movistar Arena. Hopefully that means she’s fully recovered from the food poisoning that forced her to cancel her Milan show.
For all of us who have studied dance, “off-duty ballerina” style is a true art form. It’s nearly impossible to pull off the combination of a and leg warmers, leotards, and outerwear we used to wear to grab a drink and a snack between conservatory classes. Between the ribbon in the bun, the turned-out gait, and incomprehensible mix of street clothes and ballet accessories, it’s the kind of outfit that makes people stare.
And that’s precisely the memory Rosalía’s look has likely stirred in every former—and current—dancer. As if she had no time to change after giving her all at the dance studio, Rosalía paired her leotard and sweatpants with a sweatshirt, oversized coat, and Ugg boots that are sure to ward off the cold.
