The Cynthia Erivo “Uh, I didn’t know that was happening” GIF was made for the news that Christopher Abbott and Aubrey Plaza are not only a couple but they’re also having a baby. People broke the news on April 7 that the onetime Black Bear and Danny and the Deep Blue Sea co-stars will both become first-time parents together this fall. Plaza lost her husband, Jeff Baena, in January 2025 and has taken a step back from her industry commitments since then (barring her appearance in Honey Don’t!).
The baby news is a happy story for Plaza, who has been inching back into the spotlight this year. Once the degree of surprise and delight at this news for Plaza and Abbott has worn off, we all have to acknowledge the elephant in the room: This is going to be a really cool baby. They both broke big in sitcoms (Plaza in Parks and Recreation, Abbott in Girls) before pivoting to stranger, weirder, and more serious projects that capitalize on each’s ability to subvert expectations. This is going to be a baby who is, like, wearing Tabis and seeing matinees at Film Forum before we know it. Other babies, take note. This will be a baby to watch.
